Subject: Immediate Action Required – Unjust Release of Berhane Gebregergis and Military
Interference in Governance
Dear General Tadesse Werede,
We, members of the Tigrayan Diaspora, strongly condemn the secretive and unjustified
release of an individual who acted without public mandate, violated the Pretoria Agreement, and
collaborated with the enemies of Tigray. His unauthorized trip to Asmara and his political
engagement with the Eritrean regime is a direct betrayal of our people and a stain on the memory
of those lost in the Tigray Genocidal War.
This disgraceful release, influenced by military insiders, sends a dangerous message: that loyalty
to powerful generals outweighs accountability and justice. This is a red line.
We demand immediate answers and decisive action. Tigray is not the property of the military.
Governance must serve the people, not personal interests.
We demand the following without delay:
— Publicly explain who authorized Berhane’s release and why
— Reassert full civilian authority and allow the legal process to proceed.
— Hold the individual accountable through a transparent and lawful process
— End all unauthorized negotiations with the Eritrean regime
— Reaffirm commitment to the Pretoria Agreement and justice for Tigray
The people of Tigray are watching. The diaspora is watching. The world is watching. If these
crimes are ignored, the legitimacy of your leadership will collapse.
