US special envoy to the Horn of Africa, ambassador Mike Hammer and US ambassador to #Ethiopia Ervin Massinga have discussed in Tigray’s capital Mekelle, with Getachew Reda, interim president and other senior leaders of the Interim administration of Tigray.
According to the regional broadcaster, Tigray Television, the discussion included the return of displaced individuals, the restoration of constitutional norms pre-dating the war, the rehabilitation of ex-combatants, and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region.
On Tuesday, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (#EHRC) released a 40-pages report highlighting persisting challenges present in the Tigray region following the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed in November 2022. The report noted full recovery and operationalization of basic services in sectors such as education and health, and full functionality of the law enforcement sector are still a significant challenge.
Both the special envoy, ambassador Mike Hammer and the US ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga reportedly affirmed US’s commitment to support the rehabilitation efforts in the region.
