TPLF Accuses DW of Broadcasting False and Misleading News

Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has levied serious allegations against Deutsche Welle (DW), claiming that the broadcaster’s Amharic programme aired false and misleading information on May 12th, 2024.
According to the TPLF, the report in question purported internal discord within the TPLF leadership, insinuating potential violence and instability.
The TPLF contends that such reporting is not only inaccurate but also undermines the credibility and professionalism expected of a reputable media outlet like DW.
“This threatening allegation cannot be taken as a news for a responsible public media, like Deutsch Welle. It is not a professional responsibility for an impartial journalist too,” the statement underscores.
Furthermore, the TPLF asserts that this incident is not an isolated one, citing a pattern of biased coverage by some journalists within DW’s Amharic programme, particularly during and after the “genocide in Tigray”.
In response, the TPLF is calling for DW to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, take appropriate corrective actions against those responsible for the misleading report, and issue an official apology for the dissemination of false information.
DW has yet to provide a public response to these allegations.
