Tigray youth Exodus

Weekly press release from Salsay Weyane Tigray
Tigray youth Exodus
Thousands of young Tigrayans are embarking on perilous journeys to escape the unrelenting hardships that grip their homeland. Despite a year having passed since the Pretoria Agreement promised an end to hostilities, the humanitarian crisis in Tigray persists, driven by deliberate policies and an ineffective interim administration.
Forced to leave behind families and shattered lives in war-ravaged IDP camps and makeshift shelters, these young people represent a stark symbol of the immense suffering in Tigray. Hunger, disease, and the desperate hope for a future beyond the horrors they face fuel their perilous treks across land and sea.
The international community cannot turn a blind eye to this desperate exodus. The Tigrayan people continue to bear the brunt of a crisis deemed the “worst humanitarian in the world” by many, yet their plight remains largely ignored.
We urge the international community, humanitarian agencies, and human rights organizations to act swiftly and decisively. Increased aid delivery, pressure on the Ethiopian government to uphold the Pretoria Agreement, and accountability for those responsible for the ongoing suffering are all crucial steps. Ignoring this desperate exodus is no longer an option.
