Ode to the Tigray Female Genitalia

Ghelawdewos Araia, PhD-December 28, 2024

Oh, my Tigray woman,

A victim of a human-beast

A monster, depraved with no conscience,

Who violated the inner sanctum of your genitals,

The embodiment of your corporal

The magnificent, thy sacred womb,

Your genitalia, the symbol of your womanhood,

The manifestation of your femininity,

Of your reproductive system,

Where you victimized just because you are a woman,

Or is it because you are a Tigrayan, or both?

It seems to me that it is both!

However, you are victimized also because you are part of the

Collective genocide, and above all you are the custodian of a great

Aksum civilization,

A refinement and edification that once flourished in the Horn of Africa, not to mention that you’re also the bearer of a rich cultural heritage!

The scum of the earth, the lowest of the low (Corinthians 4:13)

Have come to Tigray with the sole purpose of destroying,

The legacy of your ancestors, that was once the envy of the world,

And more, they came to destroy the material dimension of your cultural achievements,

Additionally, to destroy your psychological makeup, your mindset,

To break off and punctuate and discontinue the bounty, the abundance

Of your values,

The monsters, thus, violated your territory,

Contravened your anatomy, your personhood,

But they did not simply rape you or attacked you physically,

They in fact inserted broken glasses, pebbles and dirt unto your sacred genitalia!

One of you even attested that you were raped with a knife,

And your torturer told you, “The goal of the mass-rape is that you won’t bear children any longer; it is an act to interrupt the future generations of Tigrayans”!

The monsters have acted beyond sexual assault,

They deliberately destroyed the genitalia of the Tigray woman,

And by their criminal acts, these vicious and despicable men, in fact cut off the nerves that connect the vulva, the cervix, the uterus, to the fallopian tube! A major destruction that no gynecologist can heal!

Your afflicter, your rack master, meaner than the junkyard dogs,

Did not only attack your Monis Pubis and other external part of your genitalia, but also pounced on the blood supply line of your internal pudendal artery, a part of the internal iliac artery.

Some of you were raped in front of your parents, your husbands, your children, and you were tortured physically and mentally,

The human-beasts that raped you are your tormentors, your persecutors, mean, ruffians, meaner than the junkyard dogs! Violent jerks!

Oh, my Tigray woman, you have endured unheard off torture in history, but I can reassure you that you will recuperate and declare victory!

In celebration of your sacred genitalia, your womanhood and your femininity, once more you will revive your dignity,

You cried loud, you wept, and you suffered, when the beasts attacked you, but now you have already began smiling, laughing, dancing, and observing your annual Ashenda!

What a brave woman you are to sing a song that resonates among people in all corners of the world; in the last Ashenda, you sung, “They came to destroy us, but to the contrary we came out in multitude, like a throng!”

Your song is a manifestation of moral strength, and altogether a reflection of a soul that doesn’t die!

You brave Tigray woman, you are like the Benue (Phoenix), an ancient Egyptian bird that rose from the ashes; in fact, to me, you are like a caterpillar that undergoes metamorphosis, the semblance of a corpse, the chrysalis or cocoon, and then pumps blood unto its soft wings, and flies! The miracle transformation from a sliding minute creature into a brilliant and colorful air-borne insect!

Oh, my Tigray woman,

I am compelled to admire your tenacity and incredible courage; I am forced to appreciate your stamina; you are strong like a hard rock and/or steel!

And now, I beg you to allow me to celebrate your genitalia, the symbol of fertility and human perpetuity!

Stay well my Tigrayan woman and celebrate your survival and triumphs with other women at global level who strive to acquire justice for all women. We will stand by you until that moment arrives!
